Site Relaunch

Hi there! Welcome to the new and improved Thanks for stopping by. I changed some things to make the site work better for you.

I switched blogging software.

The software I was using didn’t serve my needs, so I shut down the site to transition. The new software offers better functionality as well as more features and design options. You can now subscribe via email, search the site, and find content more easily.

That said, this site is still a work in progress. Over time, I’ll add my portfolio, client testimonials, and free resources!

I created a vision.

I thought long and hard about what I wanted my site to achieve. I decided to appeal to writers of all types: freelancers, editors, poets, novelists, bloggers, and short story writers. After all, I fall into all those categories.

The blogging experts out there advise against this. They want you to choose a super-specific niche and stick to it. Otherwise, you’ll lose email subscribers, followers, likes, etc.

Luckily for me, that’s not why I blog in the first place, which is why…

I reconsidered my approach to blogging.

Monetising my blog would be great, but that’s not what I want to do. I make enough money from my freelance work. I maintain this blog because I enjoy it, not because I want to sell something.

That’s why all my resources will be available for free. There are enough people out there trying to sell you stuff, and I don’t want to be one of them.

If my site makes a little ad revenue here and there, great! But my main concern is that people enjoy it and find it valuable.

I broadened my niche.

I’ve never been a one-track-mind kinda gal. As much as I love talking about and educating people on borderline personality disorder, I didn’t want to limit myself to one topic. Plus, constantly talking about my mental health bogs me down a little – I struggle enough with it in my daily life.

That’s why I decided to blog about writing and wellness. There are enough blogs about writing. I wanted mine to work a little differently.

Your lifestyle affects your writing.

I’ll share productivity tips, motivational content, how-to’s, and reading recommendations related to both writing and overall wellness. Who knows? Maybe I’ll throw you a recipe or two.

Don’t worry, though – I’m still writing about borderline personality disorder over on The Mighty. I’m also blogging about mental health in youth for HealthyPlace.

Freelance Writing 101

When I was an English major, no one told me about freelance writing. I learned a lot about writing for business and academia, but I knew I didn’t want a stuffy job in an office somewhere. My career plans changed at least twenty times before I completed my Master’s.

Many English majors are probably doing that same old song and dance right now, which is why I created Freelance Writing 101, a free guide jam-packed with resources and info to help you start your freelance career.

Keep your eyes peeled – Freelance Writing 101 will go live very soon!

Essential Reading Series

When you have a Master’s degree in writing, you read a lot about writing. I want to share what I’ve learned through the Essential Reading Series.

I’ll share some of my favourite books and essays on writing. I’ll also include fiction books that demonstrate good writing. There will probably (definitely) be some poetry in there, too. A little something for everyone.

Motivational Content

I’m not talking corny, Pinterest-esque motivational content. I’m talking content that will revitalise your passion for writing.

In June, I’ll tell you why you should stop calling yourself an aspiring writer, and why you should do away with your comfort zone. In July, we’ll talk about how my freelance career impacts my creativity, and just how dangerous self-doubt is for your writing.

Free Guides & Resources

I’ll teach you how to create a content plan that works, and point you to some awesome free tools to help you stick to it.

I’m also working on the Novice Blogger’s Toolbox. This will include tips on writing and designing engaging, effective content, as well as some tips on managing the technical aspects like website design and social media.

General News

In recent months, my career has got a bit of an upgrade. I now have a new website, and a new job!

I’m pleased to reveal that I’m officially an editor at Vetary, a Finrise company. I’ve worked with this client for a long time and I absolutely love the work I do for them. I’m beyond grateful for this opportunity. I’m looking forward to overseeing my own team of talented writers and working alongside some of the nicest, most accommodating people in the industry.

Thank y’all for sticking with me through this transition. I hope you enjoy the new content as much as I enjoyed creating it!
